A personal journey from vulnerability to purposeful care
MyUniqueSpirit was born during one of the most vulnerable seasons of my life. It began with a need for gentleness, grew through a return to ancestral wisdom, and became a promise to create care that helps people feel seen, comforted, and respected in the skin they are in.
Where the Story Began 
In 2010, I was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. That diagnosis reshaped what care meant to me. As treatment changed my skin and my spirit weathered its own storm, I became more aware of how deeply the body can need softness, patience, and dignity.
I began creating simple blends for myself and my family using oils, butters, herbs, and botanicals. I was drawn to ingredients and practices that felt grounded and familiar: African ancestral traditions, along with principles found in Chinese and Ayurvedic care. These rituals did not replace my medical care. They gave me a personal way to participate in caring for my changing body and to create moments of calm when so much felt beyond my control.
What started as a practical response became something more meaningful. Applying an oil or butter was no longer just another step in a routine. It became a pause, a way to reconnect with myself, and a reminder that care could still feel beautiful rather than clinical.
From Personal Ritual to Purpose
In 2019, I was medically cleared from colon cancer. Reaching that milestone gave me the space to consider how the rituals that had supported me might serve others. I knew there were people moving through treatment, recovery, caregiving, hormonal changes, aging, chronic conditions, and ordinary seasons of sensitivity who also wanted care that felt gentle, thoughtful, and human.
Today, I continue to navigate life with chronic myeloid leukemia and ongoing medical care. Living through another chapter of cancer has deepened my understanding of vulnerability and resilience. It has also strengthened my commitment to oncology-informed care: products and education shaped by lived experience, respect for sensitive skin, and an honest understanding of what cosmetic products can and cannot do.
MyUniqueSpirit serves the oncology community while welcoming anyone seeking comforting, barrier-supportive botanical care. The products are not medical treatments, and I do not promise perfection or transformation. I create them to support softness, help protect the skin from moisture loss, and turn daily care into a ritual that feels personal and grounding.

My journey has also shaped the way I see ingredients. I am drawn to the ones that do not always receive the most attention but quietly earn their place through purpose and performance.
